NUMECA is now Cadence
AutoSeal is the fastest, most innovative approach for CAD preparation on the market today
Poor quality CADs and highly complex geometries lead to long preparation and set-up time and the need for a lot of manual input to result in a good quality mesh. It is a laborious process, making it difficult to create various design alternatives for iterative testing.
AutoSeal technology automates this entire process, without losing any detail of the geometry, and delivers quality meshes ready for CFD analysis in near real-time. Combined with Fidelity™ Automesh Hexpress, even the most complex geometries that used to take a week of intensive manual work to prepare now take less than a day to be fully preprocessed, including high quality meshes and without any simplification of the model.
From CAD or STL to watertight geometry in less than a minute
Here is how it works: Based on successive octree refinements, AutoSeal is able to detect which cells of a dirty geometry are actually inside or outside of it. This allows the system to progressively identify missing surfaces under a given user-defined threshold. AutoSeal then automatically closes the surfaces of these holes and cavities.
Directly from Fidelity, the user defines only 3 settings: the geometry to inspect, several points to determine what is inside or outside the geometry, and the minimum hole size under which the holes should be closed.
AutoSeal works on both CAD and STL files, even files coming from 3D scans.

"Where a skilled engineer typically needed one full week to close all the holes of the cabin space before, now this whole process is brought down to just about one hour with AutoSeal."
Mr Akio Takamura, Chief Engineer at Honda Automotive
One of the early adopters of the AutoSeal technology is Honda automotive. They chose to apply it for the first time for the design of the new CR-V and were very positive about the results. Mr. Akio Takamura, Chief Engineer at Honda Automotive, reported that where a skilled engineer previously needed one full week to close all the holes of the cabin space, this whole process was now brought down to just about one hour with AutoSeal.
And the robustness of the technology was definitely proven: They tested whether the resulting meshes would return the exact same results as the CAD models would and had a 100% success rate on more than 10 different vehicle models. You can read more here about that particular case.
Together with a number of clients in the automotive industry, Cadence did the math and estimated that they can save up to 50.000 USD for each CFD application they run.
AutoSeal works for everything
From automotive design to aerospace and defense to marine and naval architecture to turbomachinery, all industries can benefit to save time and resources with AutoSeal.
