The Krylov State Research Centre, famous Russian research organization for the shipbuilding industry, selected NUMECA’s FINE/Marine for external hydrodynamics simulations.
FINE/Marine is NUMECA’s CFD solution for marine applications, designed to address the specific tasks of naval hydrodynamics.
We are proud to share with you what Dr. Engineer Mikhail Lobachev, Head of the Supercomputing Centre for Mathematical Modeling under the Krylov State Research Centre, has to say about NUMECA’s FINE/Marine:
“The choice of NUMECA’s FINE/Marine has been preconditioned by its specificities, capable of addressing solutions to our challenges. Thanks to this, the visual interface appears to be much user- friendly and more convenient for our naval hydrodynamics engineers than that of multipurpose software. In the future, an extensive testing in the Supercomputing Centre should enable FINE/Marine’s implementation in other departments of the Krylov State Research Centre needing hydrodynamics simulations, whilst lacking highly qualified CFD experts”.
According to Dr. Lobachev, the FINE/Marine solver is optimized for free surface modeling, being different from most multipurpose numerical solvers available on the market. Furthermore, a dynamic adaptation of the grid ensures higher performances while solving both free surface equations and tasks associated with tip-vortex modeling for water propellers. That’s why, while addressing such challenges, these particular solutions are preferable for Krylov State Research Centre than any other software.

About Krylov State Research Centre
The Federal State Unitary Enterprise Krylov State Research Centre (formerly Federal State Unitary Enterprise Krylov Central Scientific Research Institute) is a major R&D organization established in 1894 with the creation of the very first Russian test facility for optimization of hull, engines, shipbuilding materials, machinery etc. Under certain circumstances, the principal shipbuilding scientific
research projects were concentrated under a single institution. Design organizations (Central Design Bureau) and wharfs usually do not have their research facilities. Due to such a centralization of the scientific and experimental resources, all warships, submarines and other naval engineering equipment
(civil and specialized) start their ocean journeys exclusively via the laboratories of Krylov State Research Centre.
The Krylov Centre is responsible for the entire complex of seakeeping performance (propulsion, ship sensitivity, behavior in a seaway), designing of engines of various types, stress (including explosion and vibration resistance), naval power supply, acoustic and electromagnetic performance,
stealth technologies, nuclear and radiation safety. Experiments, normative, reference and guideline documentation, guidelines, design rules, etc. are Krylov Centre traditional outputs. Conceptual engineering developments and civil marine equipment projects are also within its scope.
