NUMECA International Announces Technology Partnership with Von Karman Institute (VKI)
Charles Hirsch and Marc Tombroff, President and General Manager of NUMECA International announce the signature of a technology partnership with the Turbomachinery and Propulsion department of the von Karman Institute (VKI) (Director Jean Muylaert, Profs. Tom Verstraete and Tony Arts) for the development of a Total Integrated Design and Optimization Software for Turbomachinery. This new software product will aim at responding to a growing industrial demand for highly integrated tools, ranging from rapid pre-design of efficient turbomachinery (axial and radial compressor & turbine, pumps, fans…), to full 3D multiphysics optimization. Directly oriented at the Turbomachinery designers, the software product will start from 1D design, to 2D and full 3D, including integrated optimization and stress analysis.
VKI innovative technology will be deeply integrated and industrialized within NUMECA FINE software environment.
A word from Professor Ch. Hirsch, President of NUMECA Int.:
“Thanks to this partnership, NUMECA International will be the first industrial CFD provider, offering a total integrated solution from 1D to full 3D CFD and stress optimization, in one single software ensemble, offering an innovative and revolutionary solution to Turbomachinery designers. This partnership with VKI reinforces NUMECA’s global strategy towards application oriented software systems, such as FINE™/Turbo and FINE™/Design3D, offering the turbomachinery communities unprecedented simulation and design optimization capabilities”.
VKI is an international educational and scientific organization. It provides post-graduate education in fluid dynamics and encourages "training in research through research". Extensive research on experimental, computational and theoretical aspects of gas and liquid flows is carried out at the VKI under the direction of the faculty and research engineers, sponsored mainly by governmental and international agencies as well as industries. The Turbomachinery and Propulsion department specializes in the aero-thermal aspects of turbomachinery components for aero-engines and industrial gas turbines, space propulsion units, steam turbines and process industry compressors and pumps. The department has over 20 years of experience in the computational analysis of flow in turbomachines, and in the design techniques and multi-disciplinary optimization methods of their components.
