Aerospace Applications

NUMECA offers grid generation and CFD tools designed to tackle the most complex systems in the aerospace industry. Our integrated CFD software packages provide analysis tools and solutions for:

• Aerodynamic performance including potential, blade/wake, wake interactions, wind speed and turbulence

• Noise performance including vibration and flow generated noise

• Optimization of components e.g. blades, generators, nacelles, rotors

• Fluid-structure interactions

• Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) analysis

NUMECA has provided CFD solutions for a wide range of aerospace flow analyses from passenger aircrafts to missiles configurations.

Passenger Aircraft

NUMECA's full-hex meshing capabilities and accelerated convergence with the new CPU Booster make fast, accurate flow predictions of the aerodynamics of a passenger aircraft a reality.

The accompanying graphs demonstrate NUMECA's success in reproducing experimental results and order-of-magnitude convergence speed-up. The graphs here show comparison of lift vs. angle of attack between FINE™/Turbo computations and experiments and the convergence acceleration possible with the CPU Booster.

Full Aircraft Configuration

Mesh generation for a complete, detailed aircraft configuration is possible within hours with the parallel meshing capabilities of HEXPRESS™/Hybrid.

Transonic, Supersonic, and Hypersonic Flow

Fast and accurate aerodynamic performance of transonic, supersonic & hypersonic flows simulated with the CPU Booster.

Aircraft Cabin

Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) simulations for analysis of passenger comfort in an aircraft cabin.

Wing-box Fuel Tank

Refueling simulation of a wing-box fuel tank with a fully hexahedral mesh generated by HEXPRESS™.

High-Lift Device

Simulation of high-lift device performance at a low speed configuration.

Flow structure comparisons are shown between 10º alpha angle (middle) and 31º alpha angle (right).

Missiles

Flutter analysis of a missile with a Fluid-Structure-Interaction coupling between FINE™/Open and a FEA (Finite Element Analysis) code using MPCCI.
